How is this seminar structured?

This is a LIVE, online seminar. We'll meet for a 90-minute session during which you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as post questions to the student forum for feedback from the instructor and fellow students for 30 days after the live seminar presentation.

Why I created this seminar

When we talk about pain, it's often about how it feels. Often when we see pain in our dogs we may recognize a limp or a reluctance to move his neck. Although the physical elements of pain are important, the emotional effects are often overlooked.

By understanding how pain affects your dog's emotions, you begin to see subtle -- and not so subtle-- changes in behaviors that are actually clear signs of pain. This seminar is an important introduction to how this relationship works.

In this seminar, you'll learn to:

  • Identify your dog's basic emotions as they relate to pain, such as Fear, Rage, and Panic/Grief

  • Recognize when your dog is in a confidence cascade or suffering from shrinking world syndrome

  • Appreciate when your dog is computing a cost/benefit analysis regarding a movement decision

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this a live seminar?

Yes, in that we will all be on a video call together at the same time. WE WILL NOT MEET IN PERSON for this seminar. You can live anywhere and enjoy this seminar with us!

  • Can I ask specific questions about my dog in this seminar?

Yes, as long as you are not requesting a diagnosis or medical advice. Specific questions about behaviors, why your dog hesitates, how your dog moves, for example, are welcomed.

  • Will this course help me diagnose what's causing my dog's pain?

To be clear: no. I am not a veterinarian and do not diagnose injury or disease. The focus of this seminar is to help you evaluate how the emotional impact of your dog's pain is affecting the way they interact and move through their world.

  • Should my dog be with me for the seminar?

Not necessarily, but it's always nice to have them close, isn't it?
